Quick Overview: To watch IPTV on a smart TV from Samsung or LG, install an IPTV player from the TV’s own app store, then add your playlist, either directly in the app or on the player’s website using the TV’s MAC address. This lesson shows both methods, the apps to look for, and when a Fire TV Stick is the better option.

How to set up IPTV on a smart TV: Samsung and LG

Samsung TVs run Tizen and LG TVs run webOS. Neither can install Android apps, so you cannot use the same players as on a Fire Stick. Instead, you pick an IPTV player from the TV’s own store. The good news is that no extra box is needed, and setting up IPTV on a smart TV takes about 10 minutes.

Good to know: every app in this lesson is a player only. None of them include channels, so you need a playlist from a licensed IPTV service.

What you need

  • A Samsung (Tizen) or LG (webOS) smart TV connected to the internet
  • A Samsung account or LG account to download apps
  • Your IPTV login (Xtream Codes details or an M3U link), for example from a free IPTV trial
  • A phone or computer, for apps that use a website to add playlists

Step 1: Pick an IPTV player for your smart TV

App stores on TVs differ by country and TV model, so an app that one person sees may be missing for you. These players are widely available on Samsung and LG TVs:

PlayerHow you add a playlistCost
Smart IPTV (SIPTV)On its website, with the TV’s MAC addressTrial, then one-time activation per TV
IBO Player ProOn its website, with MAC address and device keyTrial, then yearly or lifetime
IPTV Smarters PlayerIn the app, with Xtream Codes or M3UCheck the app store listing
SS IPTVIn the app or on its websiteFree

Prices and trial lengths change, so always check the app’s store page or official website. Smart IPTV, for example, lists Samsung Tizen 6.5 (2022 models and newer) and LG webOS 3.0 and newer on its official site.

Step 2: Install the app on your Samsung or LG TV

On a Samsung TV:

  1. Press Home on the remote and open Apps.
  2. Select the Search icon and type the name of the player.
  3. Open the app page and select Install. Sign in to your Samsung account if asked.

On an LG TV:

  1. Press Home and open the Apps store (called LG Content Store on older TVs).
  2. Use Search to find the player.
  3. Select Install and sign in to your LG account if asked.

Step 3: Add your IPTV playlist on the smart TV

Open the app. What you see next tells you which of the two setup methods it uses:

Two ways to add an IPTV playlist on a smart TV: login in the app or MAC address on the website
Login screen = Method A. MAC address on screen = Method B.

Method A: login in the app. If the app shows a login screen, choose Xtream Codes and type the server address, username and password from your provider. Xtream Codes is the easiest option because channels, movies and the TV guide load automatically. Otherwise, choose M3U and paste your playlist link.

Method B: MAC address on the website. If the app shows a MAC address (and sometimes a device key), write it down. Then, on your phone or computer, open the player’s official website, go to its playlist upload page, enter the MAC address and paste your playlist link. Finally, restart the app on the TV. For a full example, see how it works in our Smart IPTV lesson.

Step 4: Activate the app before the trial ends

Many TV players run as a free trial first and then need an activation on their website, linked to your TV’s MAC address. Pay only on the official website of the app, and activate before the trial ends so you keep your playlist. Remember that this payment is for the player, not for channels.

Step 5: Get the best picture and stable playback

  • Use a cable if you can. Most smart TVs have an Ethernet port, and a wired connection is the best cure for buffering.
  • Keep the TV updated. On Samsung, open Settings → Support → Software Update; on LG, look under Settings → General → About this TV (menu names vary by year).
  • Turn off energy saving features that dim or slow the TV if playback stutters.

Smart TV IPTV app or Fire TV Stick?

Watching IPTV on a smart TV app is convenient, but the choice of players is small and they often need paid activation. A Fire TV Stick plugged into the same TV gives you the best players, such as TiviMate and IPTV Smarters Pro, and a faster interface.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I install TiviMate on a Samsung or LG TV?

No. TiviMate is an Android app, and Samsung and LG TVs do not run Android. Use a Fire TV Stick or an Android TV box if you want TiviMate.

What is the best IPTV app for Samsung Smart TV?

It depends on your login type. If your provider gives Xtream Codes details, an app with in-app login is easiest. If you have an M3U link, Smart IPTV and IBO Player are popular choices.

Is there a free IPTV player for LG TV?

Yes, SS IPTV is free. Many other players offer a free trial and then need a small activation fee.

Where do I find my TV’s MAC address?

Use the MAC address that the IPTV app shows on its own screen. Some apps create their own ID, so it may differ from the one in your TV’s network settings.
